“Multi-scale Investigations of Soft Materials: From Molecules to Mechanics

ABSTRACT

We investigate the microstructure and dynamic properties of soft matter systems ranging from nanoscale interfaces to cells.  I will introduce our simulation and experimental studies probing (1) the stability of surface nanobubbles on hydrophobic surfaces, (2) how air gas accumulation stiffens lipid bilayers, (3) the passage of cancer cell clusters through microfluidic constrictions, and (4) the change in blood rheology and RBC microstructure for cardiovascular patients after surgery.
